DAY 4: CHICKEN DAY AT MADONSA CAREPOINT

Updated: Feb 13

A Day of Impact at Madonsa CarePoint

Returning to Madonsa CarePoint today was an absolute joy! We’re starting to recognize the children’s names, hear their stories, and witness firsthand the profound impact a warm meal has on their lives.

Our team dove into more painting projects, breathing new life into the space. We sanded and repainted the playground equipment, giving it a fresh, vibrant look. Inside the classrooms, we coated the walls in a refreshing sky blue, creating a brighter, more inviting learning environment. Nick did an amazing job with the slide, the young ladies with the playground, and Jack, Carol, and Greg did a wonderful job inside the carepoint. Snappy and Natalie added a special touch by painting a mural featuring the Children’s Cup logo, while Zoey being a huge help in assisting in painting too!

One of the biggest highlights of the day? Chicken Day! This is a special occasion at the CarePoint, as children walk miles just for the chance to enjoy a rare meal with chicken. From the early morning, the bomake (women) worked alongside some of our team members to chop vegetables, prepare sides, and cook meals for hundreds of children. Seeing our team and local leaders come together in such a meaningful way was a powerful reminder of the strength of partnerships in creating lasting change.

Later in the day, we had the opportunity to visit a family in need—a mother and her three children living in a small rented room in a complex called “the train.” These buildings consist of just a few rooms, with no running water, toilets, or kitchens. To fetch water, the family must walk a long distance down a hill to a stream.

During our visit, Carol gently asked the mother if she believed in God and had been praying. She nodded, and in that moment, we were able to tell her that we were there as an answer to those prayers. We gifted her a wash bucket filled with essential supplies—soap, rice, oil, tea, beans, candles, matches, powdered milk, and sugar. These simple items mean the world to families like hers. As we stepped inside their small 8x8 room, our hearts sank. A single mattress on the floor served as their bed, and bugs crawled along the moldy walls. The most heartbreaking part? None of the children have birth certificates, preventing them from attending school and seeing the mental illnesses and malnourishment severely effecting the kids from their current state of living.

Before leaving, we prayed over the family and invited one of the children who could walk up the hill to join us for Chicken Day, bringing back food for the rest of the family. We were encouraged to learn that the welfare staff at Children’s Cup is working to help the children obtain birth certificates—an arduous but life-changing process that could open doors to education and a brighter future. Please join us in praying for these documents to be granted and for the support this family desperately needs.

Back at the CarePoint, McKenna led a Bible Club for some of the younger kids before our team helped serve the much-anticipated chicken meal—plates filled with beet salad, carrot slaw, potato salad, and chicken over rice. The children’s laughter and smiles after receiving their meals were a sound we’ll never forget—pure joy, impossible to put into words.

As we said our goodbyes, we were met with endless hugs, making it almost impossible to leave. God’s love was undeniably present in those moments, and we will treasure these memories forever.

To close out the day, our team gathered for dinner, reflecting on our experiences, sharing our highs and lows, and recognizing an MVP who went above and beyond. It’s moments like these that remind us—together, we make one incredible team.

Now, it’s off to bed, eager to wake up and serve at a new CarePoint tomorrow!
